Friends Meeting House
How often do you find yourself saying yes when you mean no?
Staying silent when you need to speak?
Or asking for something in a way that feels more reactive than grounded?
Our boundaries—and our ability to make requests—shape our relationships, our work, our organizing and our capacity to care for ourselves and others. They offer us the ability to recognize and meet our physical, emotional, and energetic needs. Yet so many of us were taught to override these needs to find safety or connection.

The way we bring our bodies + needs into more alignment is through practice. Our boundaries cannot just come from our intellectual understanding but must also include our bodies. When we have more embodied boundaries we are able to take action or speak in ways that align with our inherent needs and our values. During the workshop we will cover core somatic concepts, explore an embodied sense of boundaries and teach foundational practices that you can bring to your daily life.
We approach this work as both personal and collective. Through somatic practice, we not only support our own healing—we develop skills to move our relationships, our communities, and the larger world toward what we care about. Especially in these times when we are witnessing the rise of global facism, in this country and abroad, it is essential to embody our “nos” both as a form of resistance and as a way to make space to build the world we want to live in.
Come practice boundaries with us and learn what the body has to say.
What to expect:
In this introductory workshop, we’ll learn through the body using individual, partner and group practices. During the workshop we will cover core somatic concepts, explore an embodied sense of boundaries and teach foundational practices that you can bring to your daily life.
This workshop is designed for both people new to somatics and those who've been practicing for a while. Somatic practices are meant to be revisited again and again, inviting new depth and understanding with each repetition.
About the Facilitators:
This workshop is co-facilitated by Lucy Waechter Webb and Tess Waechter Smith grounded in the Strozzi and generative somatics methodologies. Tess and Lucy are sisters, politicized healers + change makers who grew up in Michigan and after years of living away returned to the land and peoples who shaped them with a committment and longing toward community care and racial justice. They approach somatics as a practice that offers personal and collective healing and change.
